Duralex Glassware

Duralex Glassware

Duralex has been making tempered glass in France since 1945, and the reason it turns up in so many cafes is simple: the tempering process makes the glass several times stronger than ordinary glassware, and when a piece does eventually fail it breaks into blunt fragments rather than shards.

Picardie is the pattern most people recognise, the faceted tumbler that has been on French cafe tables for decades. AGC stocks it across the full size run from the 90ml espresso size through 130ml, 160ml, 220ml, 250ml, 310ml, 360ml and up to the 500ml. Gigogne covers the same ground in a different profile with 90ml, 160ml and 220ml tumblers plus a 250ml dessert cup, and Provence and Prisme add ribbed and coloured options including the Marine blue tumblers.

The Lys stackable bowl range is the other half of the story, running from a 60mm dip bowl at 36ml right up to a 310mm serving bowl at 5.8 litres, with nine sizes in between. They nest tightly, which matters when bench space is short. Ovenchef ribbed ramekins in 130ml and 210ml handle baked and chilled desserts, and the Manhattan and Dx 2000 lines cover highball and old fashioned service.
